Don't Eat Cats
Last night I stumbled across a real-life twilight zone. His name - ALF. Apparently this furry alien is still alive. He even has a late night talk show on TV Land with Ed McMahon as the announcer. I remember back in '89 ALF was one of my favorite shows. He was popular among adults as well for some reason. I remember seeing him host NFL games and Thanksgiving parades. He would show up in the weirdest places hosting. He liked to eat cats and thought tin-foil was gold. When I was a kid it could be said that I watched too much TV. I suppose now that could be said - when I have the time. I remember my step-brother bet me that I couldn't go a day without TV, like I was an addict or something. I said, "You're on!" It was easy money. However, at the end of the 24 hours, ALF was coming on. Then all the family felt sorry for me and said I could watch it anyways. I refused and said it was the principal and I didn't have to watch it. I suppose to them it really appeared like I was addicted; the reality was I just wanted something to do. I look back now at all the TV I watched and what I could have done instead and think, "TV was a much better learning experience than I ever hoped." See, I actually took life lessons from Family Ties, Three's Company, Growing Pains, Cosby Show, ALF, Different Strokes, Perfect Strangers, Bob Newhart, The Jefferson's, Night Court, Cheers and many more situational comedies. People wonder why I didn't turn out bad and say I must've had good parents. But that's not it. The families on those comedies were where I took my lessons. I learned not to lie so many times I can't count. I learned there can always be a misunderstanding, especially if you are eavesdropping. I learned not to steal, cheat, do drugs, or take the family car on a joyride from those comedies. I also learned not to eat the cat. You can thank ALF for that.

You learned your values from TV. That's weird, man. Do you ever feel the need to pause for station identification?
