Get Me To The Church on Time

I am writing this from Prague. This weekend started off normal. I woke up. Then it become a little abnormal. I was able to drop my car off before I left and was able to get everything packed - barely. I waited until 11pm on Friday night before I actually started to pack. Luckily I was able to fit everything - A laptop, a carryon and a suitcase. My neck still hurts from carrying such a heavy load. I actually did get up around 8:15 Saturday because the taxi driver was going to be there at 9. Apparently he called 5 times while I was in the shower. I then call him back and he is like "I here now". I said give me a couple of minutes and he said OK. So I figured he was outside waiting for me. Unfortunately as I put my suitcases outside I saw neither hide nor hair of him. I thought, great, he got the wrong house and I am going to miss my plane. I then call him back and he shows up about 5 minutes later after he said he was on his way. I made it to the airport on time. Airport security was a breeze. No bags searched or anything. I've had them searched before and it was painful. My first flight was from Dallas to Toronto. The big thing about that was I had no one sitting next to me on the flight. That is a rarity, especially when the plane is almost full. I then had a layover in Toronto for a few hours. I needed it because I had to go through customs there just to get my suitcase from AA and put it on Czech Airlines. Suffice it to say I was able to do all of it and sat down in the airport bar for a hamburger and a drink. I then proceeded to board the big plane headed for Prague. Lo and behold God gives me another blessing and I didn't have anyone sitting next to me on this flight either. Everyone else was cramped but I lifted the middle bar and stretched out. The flight was sooo long. They were delayed and didn't get off the ground until 6:15 when they were supposed to leave at 5:30. Anyway it was just a long trip, I tried to sleep and then when everyone else was sleeping I couldn't and had to stay awake. Their movies they played were - Little Black Book, Men In Black and Blue Streak. Anyway, I arrived and took a taxi to my hotel. He charged me 700 Krona which is equivalent to $25. Unfortunately I hadn't mastered the currency and gave him a 500 Krona note as a tip. I thought I was giving him $5.00. He looked at me like I was so generous. I now know why. Anyway, my initial plan was to go to church when I arrived at 8AM. Unfortunately that is like 2AM Texas time and I fell asleep at the hotel. I woke around 4PM their time. I am so off on this time thing. Anyway when I woke up I went exploring. I found a McDonald's and a KFC. I know what I will be eating while I am here. It is so weird here. I don't understand a single word anyone is saying. They may speak English - but only when they want to. They didn't understand the word "plain" I guess I am going to have to figure how to say that. I then found a little tourist thing to do inside one of the Church's in the old town square - a choir concert that has Bach in it. It was located about 7 miles north of my hotel. I thought,"That is my goal, to go to this concert." That was an adventure in and of itself. Really around here everyone takes the mass transit system. Unfortunately I had no idea how they did it. I first took a tram that took me in the exact opposite direction of where I wanted to go. I had the hotel guys put on the map where everything is. So I then found another tram and couldn't figure out how to do it. Finally I decided to start to walk. By now it had gotten dark. As I walk on a dark road I stupidly decided to look at the map. All of a sudden this girl goes "You American?" I say yes. She then said,"I take you to sex". I said, "No, I don't want that." She then says,"How bout blowjob?" and proceeds to stand right in front of me and grab my jeans. I screamed - "Noooo!" and had to pry her hands off of everything. I then proceed to pick up the pace. This girl in front of me gives the universal crazy sign and I agree. In the end I made it to this beautiful Cathedral and was about to walk in when I realized all I had was American money. So I proceed to the change booth, cash in the last of my Dollars and then go in. It was very beautiful and the choir was excellent. I then decide to take the subway home and after one reversal I figured out how the subway system works. Thank God I am finally getting used to it. It is 3pm in DFW right now, but its time for bed here. Wish me luck.

I am so glad you made it ok - I have worried about you quite a bit. I wondered just how you were going to handle being out of the country for the first time. My first time out of the states for an extended time period by myself was a wild experience. I hope that this will be an educational trip for you broadening your world outlook. Keep us informed of your daily experiences.
//My weekend has been busy to. Friday I went with the dallas peace center to the Occupation dream land movie and lecture - it was very informative about the Iraq war and our troops serving there (they arnt as brainless as many people think). Saturday I watched the Tech game (we totally dominated KSU 6-0 now). I then played disc golf with Eric until dark. Sunday, I went to the state fair to see 38 Special. It was a good show but the guitarists were incomparrable to those we saw at kenny wayne sheppard. And then tonight the peace center is hosting an Iraqi film director who will be discussing his film that was a study of Iraqi citizens' opinion about our military presence in their country....I think I will just put off all the papers that I brought home to grade until tomorrow. // So keep up the blogging. We all are hoping the best for you.

I've been wondering about you and how your trip was going. It sounds like your Krammeresque existence is continuing, even over seas. I would have paid money to have seen you reaction when the prague chick offered you some "sugar". Be sure to take lots of pictures....and be careful.
Our weekend was pretty nice. On Friday night, we watched "Survivor" from Thursday. After that, I had a few bourbon and Cokes, and played on the computer. On Saturday, Jess got up early to do the Race for the Cure. Elaina was nice enough to sleep till 8:30. We got up, had breakfast, and I put on the Saturday morning cartoons for her. Jess got back in the early afternoon. We were expecting the Whirlpool repair man to come look at our dishwasher. He still wasn' t there at 2:30. I was going to stay and wait for him, but Jess said she would watch Ellie and wait for the repair guy. I got out for an hour and went to "Geekfest" in Plano. The whole trip was less than an hour. I did see Carrie Fisher several times. They had her up on a dimly lit stage, where she was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. I think it costed $25 to do it, and I decided I didn't want her autograph. I had our camera but didn't take any shots because the stage was dark and you wouldn't have been able to see her. She looked much better than I expected. She has definately lost some weight since the last time I say her on TV. She seemed to be pretty friendly and was smiling alot as speaking to fans. The cost of "Geekfest" has gone up. It cost $10 for general admission when it used to be $5. It was $5 to get in on Sunday, but who wants to go there on Sunday when the cowboys are playing? Anyway, I only bought one action figure(Count Dooku)and then left. It was the same stuff we see everytime. When I got home, Jess said the repair man had already come and gone. We were getting hungry so we went out for an early dinner at the local Italian place around the corner. I had a fantastic Stromboli while Jess had some pasta dish, and Ellie had cereal. We then went to a local pumkin patch and let Ellie look around, but didn't buy anything. Saturday night, Jess had to work on a school paper, so I watched one of the movies you burned for me, and proceeded to stay up till 3AM. Sunday was the usual Sunday. I hung out with the wife and daughter and watched an OT victory for the Cowboys.
I hope all goes well there. Let us know any more funny stuff that happens.

Brian I am so glad you made it ok. I have been there and done that when I was 17 and had to take a train from Italy to Germany and then I was informed halfway through the ride that I was in the wrong section of the train and that at the next stop I had to get off the train and run down to the last 2 carts of the train. They explained to me that those carts were going ot be hooked up with a different train to go to Germany. It was a hellish overnight nightmare ride......
