Pro-Bono and U2
Let's see what's been happening. We had the meeting with the Dallas city
lawyers yesterday. There was about 20 of us in the room. It was rather
interesting. It kind of reminded me of Boston Legal. I am lucky I
watched all of season one in a week, so I was able to follow some of the
lawyer speak. I think our meeting was successful. We were highly
effective in that everyone in our group had something to bring to the
table, some kind of viewpoint, but yet we all had the same goal - to be
able to give food to anyone who is hungry. I think the city really tried
to justify themselves but it was so evident that the current law is not
justifiable that they were willing to make some concessions and
compromise. I piped up a couple of times and stated things like how our
director was not the city but God. I also made them clarify that it was
legal to give them water. All in all I think it went well. I guess it is
up to lawyers now to negotiate and work everything out. If not, we may
actually go to court. These lawyers are working pro-bono, so I guess
they like U2. I got such a weird vibe at the meeting. It was very
emotional and the city really got an earful from all of us. I felt like
at the end the city got the point, but it took a while to do it.
Anyways, I am glad that it is over. I hate arguing. It was like the rest
of the day I was a little snippy. Today is much better, except I was
late for a meeting this morning. That is embarrassing when you come in
late and they have to repeat things for you. But in the end it was a
productive meeting, which is actually pretty rare. Later on I get a call
from a recruiter at my desk. Yesterday I got a call from another
recruiter. Everyone around me hears," I am not looking" and they know.
It's kind of funny, cause it is so incessant.
Thought of the Day
"You have no idea what my people have been through."
"The Jews?"
"No, the dentists. Did you know we have the highest suicide rate of any
profession?"
"Is that why it's so hard to get an appointment?"
