She a Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock-n-Roll
And now for the weekend update. This weekend I was a nitty gritty Texan.
Since I had Friday off I went to Wichita and met Holly there. She was in
town for a science teacher convention. I took mom grocery shopping and
the like. Then I went with Holly to the local high school football game.
If you have ever seen Friday Night Lights it is very true to life as to
what high school football is to Texas. This game was for the city name -
Old High vs. Rider High(my alma mater). There were even kids vandalizing
cars and stuff because they were crazy. Rider won the game like 46 to
17. As part of the Texas tradition the weather changed 30 degrees when
we were at the football game. It went from the 60s to the 30s during
that period. Everyone left in the fourth quarter because of the cold. We
then went to the local hangout, IHOP, and noticed how everyone in town
was there on a Friday night at 11pm. Holly and I have a habit of
slipping past all of the groups waiting in line to get a table. It
happens cause we are only 2 people and get a table for two a lot
quicker. Saturday I got mom setup with a mom-cam so I can check in on her
every now and then. Saturday night we went back to Dallas and went to
Gilly's Country Bar. I saw Holly ride a bull and last like 12 seconds,
of course it ended up with her being thrown off and losing her shoes. We
also did the Texas Two step and she tried to teach me the waltz. I am a
bit of a bumbler as my center of gravity is above my head. I even wore a
Stetson cowboy hat and one of Pepper's old shirts. I had it all down
except for the jogging shoes. Sunday I did the usual and finished the
evening watching a DiscoveryHD show about a tribe living in the
mountains of Africa. Apparently the men like their married women fat and
put them in a fattening hut before they are to married. After months
they come out of the hut and are round. They are all arranged marriages
even though they are born-again Christians. It was wild and got me
thinking how we should all be fat and have arranged marriages - not. How
was your weekend?
