A tornado story

So there we were, its 3:30AM. I had spent most of the evening working
on a registration program i created for the pocketpc for the green
expos. I went to bed at 1AM. Two and a half hours later Holly and I
jump awake as it sounds like someone is taking a bat and hitting our
bedroom window with it. But, our window held up to the onslaught. So
me and Holly awaken to a roar of a train. We are sure it is a tornado.
We run downstairs and dive into the closet under the stairs. We pile
up on the stuff and hold the door closed as we hear it roar. I lean
back and hear glass breaking. Aparently I was sitting on something
made of glass. Anyways my closet is filled with golf clubs and
computer equipment. I think it might not be a safe place to be.
Anyways, it take a while and we hear everything die down. So we get
out and everything is fine. No damage on the inside. The power is out
though. Something about sleep apnea though, it is hard, if not
impossible, to sleep without my sleep machine. So I toss and turn.
Later that morning I get up to go to work. Holly had left and said it
was a war zone. Houses in my neighborhood had their roofs torn off.
Aparently what was hitting our window was shingles. I got to the top
of the hill, saw a line of traffic and the fire department removing
huge trees from the road and decided to go back home and get some more
work done. I looked at the huge 50 foot power lines by the house and
they were toppled over. It was said that it was 80mph winds, but I am
willing to bet it was a tornado in my neighborhood. Our house has
maybe 1 tile missing. Compare that to our neighbors who had
insulation poking out and huge trees downed we got out lucky. The
power was restored when I got home, just in time to work.

Comments:
I woke up at 3:30AM to hear it all happening. We didn't get out of bed, but I was a little nervous for a while. This morning, I couldn't really check out the house because it was still dark ( 6:15). I'll take a look when I get home tonight. I didn't notice any of the houses around us damaged, so I'm hoping everything is OK at our house....nothing wrong on the inside, anyway.
Considering all the junk in that little closet of yours, I would've taken cover in the downstairs bathroom.

I as well woke up at around 3:30 but couldn't stay awake and fell back asleep (a' la Brian). This morning I woke up and tooko the dogs outside to see the craziness of my neighborhood. We had a few little branches laying on our vehicles but other than that nothing else happened to our house or cars. My neighbors were not so lucky. My neighbor to my left who I really don't know (so don't really care) lost a little bit of his wooden fenc. The neighbor to the right of me had giant tree limbs fall in his yard. The person who lives behind me had a little picket fence (notice I said had). The people across the street were hit hard. They lost power at 3:30 am and still did not have any when i left for work this morning at 8:30. Also the nirghbor across the street had a huge tree uprooted and it fell in a power line and taking out his neighbor's fence. There was an auto mechanic shop on HWY 10 and Anderson which is literally the next block over and the whole roof had been peeled off like a banana and the only thing that was still standing were the concrete walls... craziness... I figure it was hit hardest because it's backyard is a mobile home park. Mobile Home Parks should be outlawed as they are weather hazards.
