From Evernote: Untitled Note

Untitled Note

by ridesearch

You know you are good at what you do when people use your name as a commodity. Apparently the Boy Scouts have realized that they shouldn't have let me go and told my contracting company they are looking for another Brian Bass - using those words. I have heard my name used like that at at least 4 companies I have worked at - "We need to hire more Brian Basses" wad heard at the IRS years ago. "If we had another Brian Bass we could get two developers for the price of one" was heard at Rapport technologies and "I hate to see you go, we'll never get another Brian Bass" was heard at Realpage. Anyways, the Boy Scouts don't want to pay my rate, which is understandable. I told them I would take lower rate and work part time after hours. We will see. Maybe I could get RideSearch back in the black again.

To continue my ego trip, ever since I was 10 I have been able to visualize in my head what needs to done and then in a flutter of typing be able to write efficient code at hundreds of lines a day. I think having a passion for programming is a big part of it. I'd say 80% of programmers do it just for the money and only 5% like to learn new things. So that does make me rare, and it inflates my ego. But you know, confidence in one's job makes a person likely to get raises and get better jobs. That's just the way it is. Have a good weekend!
