Ubuntu Class
So I just started watching Netflix on my iPhone. I knew it was just a matter of time before someone figured it out. Basically you have to jailbreak your phone and run the ipad version. It is a bit more complicated but if you follow the instructions on the net it can be done. I have to say the video quality on an iPhone 4 is top notch. Now you say, what about the data plan? Well, I found a fix for that as well. Considering I am halfway through my month and have already used almost 4 Gig of data or $45 I need an alternative. So I found a service called Clear iSpot. It is a little wireless hotspot for iPhones and iPads that you pay only $25 a month for unlimited data. I ordered it yesterday. It should save me hundreds in the long run. Sorry AT&T, data should be unlimited. Your limited plan hearkens back to AOL in 1995. I remember having to limit what I did back then on a 14K modem. Wow, I am old.
I have also jumped ship a little on Windows 7. The other day I installed Ubuntu on my laptop. It is so much faster than Windows ever was. It is a little harder to understand and you have to learn how to set it up, but once you do it is very powerful. I also think I can start developing non-app store iPhone apps on it. That should be fun. It is like there is all of this technology to play with, yet I don't have much time to learn and play. I am still setting the house up with programs. Sometimes I wish I could stop time and develop all of the ideas I have because I know eventually I will be finished with them. It is like it will take at least a couple of years to get up to speed with new technology and by then there will be something new. Oh well, it is fun when I have the time.
I do feel sorry for people who don't know or understand the power of computers, the internet or programming. I think not just smart people need to learn this stuff but everyday people. Take for instance Brennon's netbook. I got it on eBay for dirt cheap and it was sent with stuff on the hard drive. Apparently it was a girls laptop with "I love the jonas brothers" stuff on it and her name, email addresses, picture and friends email addresses. Imagine if I were a hacker? It was not completely wiped so I had to go in and delete it all and reset it all. If a malicous person would have had it they could have even extracted all the deleted files from it. So knowledge is power, but not having the knowledge can be dangerous. Maybe I should teach a class...
